Sven Ulreich is set to look for a transfer away from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich once again managed to get a top player from a Bundesliga club on a free transfer in January. The German champions sealed the deal to bring Alexander Nubel in summer after his contract at Schalke comes to an end.

Nubel’s transfer created a lot of buzz in Germany due to the presence of Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich. The German captain is unlikely to sacrifice his playing time to give Nubel some games next season. Moreover, there are reports in Germany suggesting that Neuer is likely to get a new contract.

Apart from Neuer, the future of Sven Ulreich at Bayern is also set to be affected due to Nubel’s arrival. Ulreich has been Die Roten’s number two goalkeeper for the past five seasons. His place looks in jeopardy as Nubel will certainly become the understudy of Neuer.

In an interview with Sport1, Ulreich admitted that this could be his last season in the Bayern shirt. The German goalkeeper insisted that he needs to play regularly and that is unlikely to happen at Die Roten next season.

"“If I had the opportunity to play regularly elsewhere or at least more regularly than here, then I would switch and want to take this step.“I am open to everything and can also take the step abroad.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Ulreich also said that Bayern did the right thing by getting Nubel as one can not miss the opportunity to get a top player like him. The German shot-stopper is pleased with the support shown by Bayern fans towards him in the past four seasons.

During 2016 and 2017, Manuel Neuer struggled with injuries and was out for a long time. Ulreich stepped up during his absence and delivered solid performances. He was on the verge of leaving the club before Neuer’s injuries. Tables turned for him and Bayern rewarded his performances with a new contract in 2018.

After Neuer’s return to action at the start of the 2018/19 season, Ulreich has struggled for playing time. Niko Kovac didn’t give him game time in DFB Pokal games. This season has been nothing different for Ulreich as he is yet to make an appearance for the defending Bundesliga champions.

Ulreich has been a top professional at Bayern till now and he deserves to get a move away from the club in summer. Die Roten are unlikely to stand in his way as they already have his replacement ready. Hopefully, Ulreich gets to play few games in the next six months and end the season with few trophies.
