Bayern Munich looking to sign Premier League star in January
Bayern Munich is reportedly showing interest in Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha in the winter transfer window.
The January transfer window started with a bang for Bayern Munich as they concluded the signing of Alexander Nubel from Schalke. The German goalkeeper will join the German champions in summer on a free transfer.
After the arrival of Nubel, Die Roten have switched their attention to adding a forward to their squad. The squad is looking thin in the attacking department after Serge Gnabry suffered an injury during training in Doha. Kingsley Coman is already on the treatment table for more than a month due to a knee injury.
Wilfried Zaha has emerged as an option for Die Roten to bolster their attacking department. According to Evening Standard, Bayern already had a loan offer rejected for the Ivory Coast winger. This report insists that Crystal Palace doesn’t want Zaha to leave on a loan transfer. They will not entertain offers only below their evaluation of the player, which is close to €70-80 million.
Apart from Evening Standard, Guardian has also confirmed Bayern’s failed bid to sign Zaha. The 27-year-old winger was desperate to leave the club in summer, but a transfer couldn’t materialize. He recently appointed Pini Zahavi as his agent to seal a transfer away from London based club.

Zaha has been one of the best wingers in the Premier League over the past three seasons. The former Manchester United forward is an efficient dribbler and attracts a lot of fouls in the final third. His dribbling helps in stretching tight defenses and create space for the other forwards. He has helped Palace immensely in avoiding relegation.
Despite his positive influence in the final third, Zaha is not able to reflect it in terms of goals and assists. He would have been a great loan option for Die Roten, but the English club and player want a permanent solution. With Leroy Sane as their prime summer target, signing Zaha for such a huge fee doesn’t make sense.
Bayern’s squad looks bare thin at the moment, but they are right to not push the panic button and overpay in the winter market. There is no doubt that Zaha is a phenomenal player, but Die Roten should be looking at younger players in this position.
Along with the option of signing a player temporarily, Die Roten also has good young players in their ranks that can fill in for few games. Joshua Zirkzee responded well in the two opportunities he got before the winter break, so he can surely fill in for injured forwards in the upcoming games.
