Luiz Gustavo

Bayern Munich always tries to sign top players from fellow Bundesliga clubs. The winter transfer window in 2011 was nothing different as Die Roten reached an agreement with Hoffenheim for the transfer of Luiz Gustavo.

The Brazilian played in the defensive midfield role for Hoffenheim. Gustavo had impressed in the Bundesliga for Hoffenheim, so Bayern wasted no time and signed him as soon as January window opened in 2011.

More from Bayern Strikes

Gustavo instantly became an important player for Bayern. The Brazilian sat in front of the back four and helped in breaking play by making vital interceptions and tackles. Javi Martinez took his place in the line-up in 2012, but he still went on to make 36 appearances in the treble-winning season.

Heynckes showed great faith in Gustavo. He didn’t receive similar backing from Pep Guardiola at the start of the 2013/14 campaign. The Brazilian eventually left Bayern to join Wolfsburg. Gustavo can be considered as a successful transfer for Die Roten as he won 100 caps for the club and played a key role in the club’s success during his three-year stay in Bavaria.
