Alphonso Davies

Bayern moved swiftly to beat top European clubs for the transfer of Alphonso Davies in 2018. The German club paid then a record fee for an MLS player to sign the Canadian winger from Vancouver Whitecaps. Despite agreeing to a fee, Davies had to wait six months to join Bayern in January 2019.

Davies had a slow start to his career in Bavaria. He made only six appearances under Niko Kovac in the second half of the season during the 2018/19 campaign. The Canadian forward got the desired game time to keep his fitness during this testing period.

Rekordmeister were heavily linked with wingers last summer, but Davies was not worried about competition as he is confident about making it at Bayern. He started the new season slowly but eventually found his way into the starting lineup. However, he is playing in an unusual position as Bayern utilised him in the back four. He has excelled in this role till now and expected to play more games due to injuries to other defenders.

Davies is a promising talent with the potential to be a top player for Bayern. Hasan Salihamidzic is confident that Davies will be an important player for Die Roten in the future. The transfer fee has not been huge for Davies and could end up looking like a bargain in a few years.
