Bayern Munich is reportedly looking to sign a right-back in the upcoming winter transfer window.

The transfer rumours are hotting up as the window is just two weeks away. Bayern Munich is also likely to weigh up options in January. The latest reports in Germany suggest that right-back could be the area where Die Roten will like to improve their options.

According to Kicker, Bayern Munich is interested in signing Benjamin Henrichs from Monaco. The German defender operates in the right-back position for the French club. This report hints that Henrich may cost in the region of €30 million.

Christian Falk from SportBild also confirmed Die Roten’s interest in Henrichs. The German reporter also insisted that Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo is the other right-back target for Bayern Munich. Die Roten were linked with Portuguese defender in summer when Juventus were looking to offload him.

Either of the above-mentioned full-backs will allow Bayern to permanently move Joshua Kimmich in the midfield. The German international has been delivering impressive performances in midfield, but the injury crisis in central defense has forced him to move back in the back four.

More from Bayern Strikes

There is growing uncertainty over Jerome Boateng‘s future in the past few days. The German defender reportedly wants to leave the club in January. Signing a right-back will allow Benjamin Pavard to play in central defense, acting as the direct replacement for Boateng. Pavard can partner Alaba in defense while Javi Martinez acts as the third choice center-back till Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule recover from their injuries.

In terms of qualities, Bayern needs in their right-back, both Cancelo and Henrichs tick all the boxes. Henrichs has not been a regular at Monaco this season, but his performances in Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen surely indicate that he has the potential to be a top right-back.

Cancelo, meanwhile, has been struggling to get regular game time at Manchester City. The Portuguese full-back’s best work comes in the final third. The defensive side of his game still needs some work, but he will perfectly fit with Bayern’s style of playing attractive football.

dark. Next. Bayern Munich have no plans to sign a striker anytime soon

Manchester City is unlikely to give up on Cancelo so early. He is likely to improve with more game time. Henrichs’ transfer fee is decent, so I can see Bayern going for him in January. Since the arrival of right-back will solve so many problems, I think Die Roten will be looking to sign one in the winter window.
