Will David Alaba leave Bayern Munich soon?
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is not ruling out a potential move away from the club in the future.
There were many key departures at Bayern Munich last summer. The German champions may allow more senior players to leave next summer, considering they will have only one year left on their contracts.
David Alaba is not one of those players that Bayern will be ready to offload, but his contract length may be a cause of concern for the club. Alaba’s current contract is set to expire in June 2021. There have been no concrete reports suggesting that there have been discussions regarding a new contract between the two parties.
Alaba was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last summer. Bayern made their stance clear quickly that they don’t have any plans to sanction the Austrian’s departure. A couple of years ago, Real Madrid was also linked with Alaba, but Die Roten refused to listen to any offers.
The Austrian full-back has been coy about his future at Bayern this season. In a recent interview with Sport1, Alaba insisted that he is considering all options regarding his future. The 28-year-old defender did insist that he is currently focussed on achieving big things with Die Roten.
"“I can imagine both: staying here or taking a different route.”“At the moment, however, we have goals here and I want to achieve them with Bayern Munich.”"

Alaba has been one of the most consistent performers for Bayern in this decade. The full-back broke through the club’s academy and made the left-back position his own. His performances have dipped a bit in the last few seasons, but he remains one of the most consistent left-backs in Europe.
The Austrian defender has a different role to play for Die Roten in the past couple of months. Due to severe injuries to Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule, Alaba has been playing in central defense. His performances in this position have been sublime as Joshua Kimmich considers him one of the best central defenders in the world.
Alaba is still in the prime of his career. He can play in this position consistently for at least three more years. Moreover. Alaba can be a perfect mentor for Alphonso Davies, who has been playing in left-back position this season due to injuries to other defenders.
There will be a host of top clubs that will be eager to sign Alaba if he becomes available in summer. Bayern cannot afford to allow Alaba to leave the club and join a European rival. The club needs to initiate contract talks or risk him losing for free in 2021.
