Thomas Muller has urged Bayern Munich forwards to improve their productivity in the final third and support Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern Munich has been struggling this season, particularly in the Bundesliga. Die Roten’s title defense is in tatters after suffering two consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga over the past ten days. They cannot afford to lose more ground in the title race before the winter break.

The instability at the back is the key reason behind Bayern’s poor run of form this season. Die Roten concede poor goals regularly. The injuries to Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez has made matters worse as Die Roten cannot field their strongest back four for a long time.

On the other end of the pitch, Robert Lewandowski has been in sublime form. The Poland international has been the best striker in Europe this season as he has 27 goals in 24 games across all competitions.

Lewandowski’s brilliance has overshadowed the inconsistency of other forwards at the club. Speaking to media (via Daily Mail) on Tuesday, Thomas Muller urged other attacking players to become more efficient in front of the goal.

"“It certainly showed over the last two games. Maybe one or the other players including myself have to change their game and go more for the goal.”“We have other players who are dangerous in front of goal other than Lewandowski.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Lewandowski has scored close to 50% of Bayern’s goals in the Bundesliga. The Polish striker has been scoring every game till last weekend. He fired blank against Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach. To no one’s surprise, Bayern suffered defeats in both games.

Serge Gnabry is the second-highest contributor in front of the goal for Bayern. The German forward has eight goals to his name across all competitions, but only four goals in the Bundesliga. Kingsley Coman started brightly with some brilliant performances. However, his form has nosedived in the past couple of months. The French winger has scored only one goal in the league.

Thomas Muller scored his first league goal of the season last weekend, while Philippe Coutinho has three league goals to his names. Ivan Perisic has also been underwhelming in the final third despite showing some great promise at the start of the season.

These numbers are poor for forwards playing at a big club such as Bayern Munich. Lewandowski is bound to have a lean patch of form, so it is time for other forwards to step up. If Bayern struggles to find a solution for goalscoring problems from within the club, then they may have to spend big in the transfer market to find another goalscoring forward to complement Lewandowski’s output.
