Joshua Kimmich warns his Bayern Munich teammates that winning the league will be very difficult this season.

Bayern Munich suffered yet another setback in their disappointing Bundesliga season on Saturday. The defending champions conceded a late winner at Borussia Park against Borussia Monchengladbach. This was Bayern’s second consecutive defeat in the Bundesliga.

As a consequence of defeat against Gladbach, Die Roten slipped to the seventh position in the league table. They currently find themselves seven points behind the league leaders. Bayern will need to find consistency in their results and performances to successfully retain the title.

Bayern’s main problem this season has been a lack of a sustained period of pressure in games. Moreover, their inefficiency in both boxes has cost them points on more than one occasion. After the defeat on Saturday, Joshua Kimmich admitted that Bayern needs to step up soon to keep their hopes alive of retaining Bundesliga title.

Speaking to media (via SportBild), Kimmich insisted that Bundesliga is much more competitive this season. He insisted that the lead at the top is not huge, but Die Roten needs to go on a long winning run now to ensure they don’t leave too much to do in the final phase of the season.

"“That’s the second time in a row. This annoys me endlessly, I could go crazy.”“Even if it is now only seven points, it will be much harder this season, because many more teams are ahead of us. It is not just Gladbach ahead of us, but a few more teams. And those who have not understood it yet, and believe it will be like last season, are out of place.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern Munich found themselves in a similar position last season as Borussia Dortmund had a big lead in the Bundesliga before the winter break. However, a combination of Dortmund’s poor form and Die Roten’s impressive second half of the season made sure that Rekordmeister successfully defended their league title.

This season situation is tricky as there is more than one team that is doing well in the league. Niko Kovac had insisted at the start of the season that there will be at least four title competitors in the Bundesliga. Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig are in superb form, while Dortmund also remains in touching distance from top position.

Die Roten just needs a run of five successive wins to get their mojo back. It looked that they found this momentum after Hansi Flick took charge of the team in November as they won four consecutive games across all competitions under him. Things were looking on the up until last weekend when their wasteful display against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

dark. Next. Bayern Munich should try to sign Alexander Nubel in January

Flick needs to quickly find a way to arrest the recent dip in form to make sure Bayern remain in the hunt for Bundesliga title. The club’s immediate attention shifts to Champions League as they host Tottenham Hotspurs in the final group game.
