Freiburg striker Luca Waldschmidt admits that he would like to play for Bayern Munich in the future.

Bayern Munich is expected to be busy in the next summer transfer window as they continue to build a squad that can achieve current and long term goals. The Bavarians signed some of the top young players in Europe earlier this year.

The attacking department is likely to be on the agenda in summer. Die Roten will need at least world-class winger if they decide against extending the stay of Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho in summer.

Die Roten have always tried to sign top German talents. The solution to their attacking problems could be solved by some of the best German forwards in Europe. Leroy Sane and Kai Havertz seem to have emerged as the top transfer targets for the Bavarians.

Along with Sane and Havertz, some young German players in the Bundesliga can improve Die Roten. Freiburg’s Luca Waldschmidt is one of these young players that can improve the quality and depth of Bayern’s squad. The young German forward told Spox that it would be an honour to play for a special club like Bayern Munich.

"“It’s the biggest and most successful club in Germany.”“To play for this club would be very special. But it’s not something I’ve been too busy dealing with so far.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Waldschmidt primarily operates as a center forward, but he can also be deployed on the right flank. The German forward has four goals and one assist to his name in six Bundesliga games for Freiburg this season.  Waldschmidt has been a prolific goalscorer for Germany’s U21 team. Earlier this season, he also featured for Germany’s senior team.

The 23-year-old striker can play the role of deputising Robert Lewandowski if he joins the club in the next two years. Lewandowski has publicly urged Die Roten to sign a backup striker to manage his workload. Waldschmidt ticks the boxes for this role, but it will be interesting to see if he will be ready to accept a role where his game time will be limited.

Waldschmidt’s contract at Freiburg is set to expire in 2022. There is a good chance that Bayern will be able to sign him for a reasonable fee if a move materializes in the next two years. Die Roten will soon be in the transfer market for a striker due to Lewandowski’s age. He is at the peak of his career, but Bayern needs to plan for his successor from now.

There have been no reports linking Waldschmidt to Bayern, but the club has been linked with other young strikers in Europe. Die Roten is reportedly keeping a close eye on Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Braut Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe this season. A winger will be the top priority for Bayern in summer, but it will not be a big surprise if the German club bulks up their options in number nine role by signing a player such as Waldschmidt or Haaland.
