Niko Kovac leaves Bayern Munich

After the embarrassing defeat against Frankfurt, the pressure mounted on Bayern’s board to take a decision on Kovac’s future. The initial reports in Germany suggested that Die Roten chiefs wanted to give the Croatian manager two more games before reviewing his position at the club. It looked certain that Kovac’s future at Bayern was hanging by a thread.

At the start of the day on November 3, Kovac was set to stay at Bayern for at least one more week. However, things changed quickly, and Bayern announced at the end of the day that the Croatian manager had left the club. The reports in Germany suggested that Kovac offered his resignation instead of club sacking him. Uli Hoeness later confirmed that Kovac had lost the dressing room, which eventually led to this decision.

Kovac’s 18-month spell at Bayern was full of ups and downs. He was under pressure and immense scrutiny throughout his time at the club. There were some memorable moments in his spell as he became the first person to win domestic double with Bayern as player and manager.

The Croatian was not the perfect manager but still deserved time after a successful debut campaign. However, football is a much tougher place for managers now as things can go sour pretty quickly, which eventually leads to their dismissal.
