RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner considers Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as the best forward in the world.

Bayern Munich have endured a mixed start to the campaign, which eventually led to the departure of Niko Kovac. The performances have been inconsistent since October, but Robert Lewandowski’s exploits in front of goal have been constant throughout the season.

The Polish striker is currently averaging more than a goal every competition. He has managed to find the back of the net in every Bundesliga and Champions League game this season. If he manages to score at this rate, then he is likely to finish with his career-best goal tally for a season.

Lewandowski is currently leading the Bundesliga scoring charts with 16 goals in 11 games. The Pole is followed by RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner with 12 goals in the same amount of games. Werner is awestruck by Lewandowski’s goalscoring form this season.

Speaking to press conference (via Bundesliga.com) on National duty, Werner insisted that no player can score goals every game unless the forward is Lewandowski. The German forward admitted that Lewandowski is on par with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

"“You can’t score every game unless your name is Robert Lewandowski.”“When I score two in Berlin, he scores two against Dortmund and I ask myself when he’ll stop. He’s currently in the same category as Ronaldo and Messi.”"

Lewandowski is ageing like fine wine at the moment. The Polish striker is working hard for the team and remains a role-model in training ground for young players. He is involved in the build-up play more often now, creating chances for his teammates.

His consistency in front of the goal has been evident over the past four seasons, but this year he has taken it to the next level. The only challenge in front of Lewandowski is to emulate these performances in big European games. He has struggled to make a significant impact against European heavyweights in the past.

Bayern Munich will be hoping that Lewandowski helps them to bring the Champions League trophy back to the Allianz Arena. The German club has struggled to reach the finals of this competition since winning it in 2013. Lewandowski will also be able to shut the critics if he manages to guide Die Roten to the European trophy.

Having qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League, Bayern’s main focus will be on the Bundesliga. Die Roten are third in the league table, four points behind Borussia Monchengladbach. The Bavarians will be looking to make three wins in a row when they face Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday, after clinching two solid victories against Olympiakos and Borussia Dortmund before the international break.
