Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in bringing Emre Can back at the club by signing him from Juventus.

There are set to be a big reunion at Bayern Munich in 2020 as Oliver Kahn returns to the club, taking up a place in the boardroom. Niko Kovac and Hasan Salihamidzic were other players that returned to Bavaria in the past couple of years to occupy different roles at the club.

However, there were a couple of reports suggesting that Bayern may sign a former player. Mario Mandzukic was the player who was linked with Die Roten. The Croatian forward is out of favour at Juventus. These reports suggested that Mandzukic would come in as a backup option for Robert Lewandowski.

After Mandzukic, another former Bayern player is linked with a return to Bavaria. According to Corriere Dello Sport (via calciomercato), Emre Can is attracting interest from Bayern Munich. The German midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Turin in January.

Can was not included in the Champions League squad by Juventus. The German midfielder has made only four league appearances under Maurizio Sarri. The Italian champions are likely to listen to offers for him in January as Sarri is unlikely to give him the required amount of minutes on the pitch.

More from Bayern Strikes

The former Bayern midfielder impressed during his four-year spell at Liverpool. Can refused to sign a new contract at the Merseyside club and moved to Turin in 2018. The German was a pivotal player for Massimiliano Allegri as he managed to play 37 league games for Juventus last season.

Can has developed well since leaving Bayern in 2014. He can operate as a number six and eight in midfield. His positional intelligence and physical robustness help him to play in a back three if needed. The performance in Turin against Atletico Madrid last season showed the extent to which Can has tactically matured.

Having said that, this transfer makes no sense for Die Roten and Can. The German club currently has very good depth in midfield, so Can will not be getting regular playing time. At this point in his career, he would prefer to join a club where he is a first choice midfielder.

There is only one way Bayern complete this transfer if they see Can as the direct replacement of Javi Martinez.  The Spaniard is likely to leave next summer, so Die Roten will be in the market to get a defensive midfielder. Can will be able to fill the void left by Martinez, but I will be still surprised if the German international returns to Bavaria anytime soon.
