Bayern Munich: Benjamin Pavard wants to become best full-back
Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard is working hard on his game to become the best full-back in the world.
The defensive woes for Bayern Munich have continued this season despite spending huge money on Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. However, both French defenders have been consistently delivering good performances this season.
It is the injuries, and lack of constant personnel in the back four that have led to the defensive problems at Bayern. Hernandez and Niklas Sule suffered serious injuries a few weeks ago. On the other hand, Pavard has been a consistent performer for Die Roten apart from a couple of games.
Pavard was poor against Eintracht Frankfurt as Die Roten suffered a 5-1 defeat at Commerzbank Arena. The French international bounced back well last week with solid performances against Olympiakos and Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich had to move quickly to seal the signing of Pavard earlier this year. After moving to a top club, Pavard is now aiming to become the best full-back in the world. In an interview with L’Equipe (via Buli news), Pavard insisted that he is working hard to strengthen various aspects of his game.
"“I know I’m not the best right-back in the world. I still have things to learn.”“There are some who are a lot better than me, but I think I’ve improved in certain areas: my crosses, defensively,”"

Pavard is every manager’s dream player as he can play in numerous positions and deliver top performances. However, he still has some rough edges in his game that need polishing. His crossing is brilliant from deeper positions, but his passing in the final third remains a work in progress.
On the other hand, he needs to improve his positioning while defending. He often fails to recover the space behind him when he ventures forward. In some games this season, wingers have exploited this area and created clear goalscoring chances. These minute improvements will cut down the errors in his game and will improve his efficiency as a full-back.
In the other part of this interview with French outlet (via Bundesliga.com), Pavard admitted that the talk of a crisis at Bayern is a mere exaggeration. He insisted that if they manage to build on to the last two games, then they will be fine this season.
Pavard is likely to continue in the right-back position at Bayern after the international break. Hansi Flick wants to stick with Joshua Kimmich in midfield, so Pavard gets to play in his favored position. His arrival helped Bayern to use Kimmich in the midfield, providing much-needed balance to the team.
