Arsene Wenger reportedly out of the running for the Bayern Munich job
Arsene Wenger is reportedly not in contention to take up the managerial role at Bayern Munich.
There is a new twist every day in Bayern Munich’s quest for appointing a new manager. The Bundesliga champions parted ways with Niko Kovac last weekend and passed on the duty of managing the team for this week to Hansi Flick.
At the start of the week, the German reports suggested that Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag is Bayern’s top target to replace Kovac. However, the Dutch manager squashed these reports quickly on Tuesday and insisted that he will not leave Ajax midway through the season.
Ralf Rangnick also distanced himself from this job as his agent confirmed that there are no active negotiations with Bayern. After Rangnick’s rejection, Arsene Wenger emerged as the front runner for this position. The Frenchman also publicly expressed his interest in taking up this role.
However, the talk of Wenger becoming Bayern’s manager cooled down in Germany on Friday. According to SportBild, Rekordmeister is no longer interested in hiring Wenger. This report insists that the French manager held discussions with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Wednesday to show his interest in this job, but Bayern no longer consider him as the candidate for this position.

ESPN has further shed light on this development. They report that the length of the contract was the sticking point between the two parties. Die Roten wanted Wenger as an interim manager, while the Frenchman wanted a longer contract.
Sport1 meanwhile is suggesting that Hansi Flick could become the interim boss if he manages to get a win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. This report also says that Bayern players will welcome this move, while the club will try to appoint Ten Hag in summer as he remains their top managerial target.
If Wenger is out of running, then Bayern will have no option than give Flick the interim role. Jose Mourinho is available, but the club is unlikely to ever appoint him, while Massimiliano Allegri is out of the equation as Die Roten will prefer a German-speaking coach. The club reportedly contacted Paris-Saint Germain boss Thomas Tuchel, but he has also ruled out a move to Bavaria at this time of the season.
The international break came at the right time for the Bundesliga champions. They will get the next two weeks to sort out the appointment and then re-focus on their targets for the season. Considering all the options and outcomes, Flick looks the most sensible option for Bayern Munich at the moment.
