Kingsley Coman believes that Der Klassiker is a must-win game for Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Bayern Munich endured a rough few days as the club parted ways Niko Kovac after the humiliating 5-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. The Croatian lost his job due to the team’s poor performances in October across all competitions.

The defending German champions have slipped to the fourth position in the league, trailing Borussia Monchengladbach by four points. Bayern players need to start delivering results on the pitch now after the departure of Kovac.

Borussia Dortmund is also ahead of Bayern in the table, but the lead is just one point. The two prime contenders for the title have failed to get a upper hand over each other during the first quarter of the Bundesliga campaign.

The Der Klassiker on Saturday comes at a crucial juncture of the season for both the teams. Speaking to Bundesliga.com, Kingsley Coman admitted that it is a must-win game for Bayern in front of their home fans. The French winger is expecting an open game where both teams will be eager to show their attacking prowess.

"“I just know that we often win at home, and often with big scores – I hope that continues. It’s always a difficult match, but we tend to win at home against them.”“We’re coming up against one of our direct rivals for the title, and it’s also an important match for the fans. We must win. It will be a good match, an attacking match for sure.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern faced Dortmund at the start of the season in DFL Supercup. The Bavarians delivered a flat performance during this game and eventually lost the game. Dortmund will be buoyed by their comeback win against Inter Milan on Tuesday, so Die Roten will have to be at their best to win this game.

A win against Dortmund will help Bayern to go into the international break on the strong note. Die Roten found themselves in a similar position in April when the players were under pressure to perform in Der Klassiker. The Bavarians rose to the challenge and smashed five goals past Dortmund at Allianz Arena.

Along with Bayern’s poor run, Coman’s form has also plummetted in the last few weeks. The Frenchman had a strong start to the season, but lately, he is struggling with finishing in the final third. However, Coman is not keen on focussing too much on stats right now.

The former Juventus winger believes that his performances have been good, but he doesn’t have the goals to show for it. Coman is hoping to get back on the scoresheet against Dortmund on Saturday. At the start of the season, the French international admitted that he is enjoying extra responsibility at Bayern. Coman must start to put his words into action by delivering for Die Roten in big games.
