Bayern Munich chiefs are reportedly split over the manager they want as Niko Kovac‘s replacement as the performances continue to get worse.

It was another strange night for Bayern Munich as they clinched a narrow victory against VfL Bochum in DFB Pokal. Niko Kovac’s men had to come back from behind to progress in the next round of the competition.

The defending champions found themselves in an awkward situation when Bochum took the lead in the first half. Die Roten found it difficult to break down the home side. The breakthrough came in the 84th minute through Serge Gnabry. Thomas Muller avoided further embarrassment for Bayen by clinching the winner five minutes after Gnabry’s goal.

Bayern is struggling to dominate games since the win against Tottenham Hotspurs in the Champions League. The defensive structure is all over the place as Die Roten conceded eight goals in the past five games. They managed to win three games during this run, but poor performances are piling up pressure on Kovac.

According to Sport1, Bayern players are not pleased with Kovac’s man-management methods. The Croatian’s public criticism of players has not gone down well in the dressing room. This report also says that Kovac’s methods are clear and players like them, but the team has failed to implement it on the pitch.

More from Bayern Strikes

Sport1 also gives an update on the possible replacements Bayern is considering if Kovac is relieved from his duties. Karl Heinz-Rummenigge wants Erik Ten Hag as the next manager, while Hasan Salihamidzic is more inclined towards Mauricio Pochettino. Ralf Rangnick also has some supporters in the current boardroom.

The Ajax manager worked as a coach at Bayern under Pep Guardiola. In a recent interview with Kicker, Ten Hag refused to rule out a return to Bavaria. Pochettino meanwhile has done impressive work at Tottenham Hotspurs in the past four seasons, but the English club is struggling this term.

Over the past couple of weeks, the response from Bayern’s hierarchy towards these reports has been shocking. Kovac managed to win domestic trophies in his first campaign but gets no public backing when the team goes through a poor run of form.

Moreover, various other factors have led to this poor run of form. The injuries to key players have created a selection headache for the Croatian manager. Sacking Kovac will be a kneejerk decision at the moment. Reviewing his position at the end of the season will be the ideal scenario for Bayern if they want a managerial change.
