Report: Alexander Nubel is all set to join Bayern Munich in summer
According to the latest report in Germany, Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel is all set to join Bayern Munich next summer.
Bayern Munich has started to rebuild their squad by signing more younger players in the summer window. This transition to a more younger squad is likely to continue next summer as Die Roten wants to build a team that can achieve current as well as long term goals.
The goalkeeper department at Bayern has been untouched in the last few years. Manuel Neuer has been the undisputed number one at the club, while Sven Ulreich has been a reliable backup to the former Schalke goalkeeper.
Die Roten may have to look for a long term solution in this position sooner than later as Neuer enters the twilight of his career. The German international is still hungry to achieve success at Bayern, but he is currently past his best form.
Bayern reportedly consider FC Schalke’s Alexander Nubel as the long term successor of Neuer. According to Bild (via One Football), the general feeling at Schalke is that Nubel is all set to join Bayern on a free transfer next summer.

The reports linking Nubel to Bayern emerged at the end of last season. In the last 12 months, Nubel established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Schalke. The German club handed him the captaincy at the start of this season despite his contract situation.
Bayern is reportedly going to face competition for Nubel from RB Leipzig. The other European clubs may keep a close eye on Nubel’s situation. Die Roten is the attraction for major German players, but playing time is likely to be a major factor in Nubel’s decision to leave Schalke in summer.
Jens Lehmann had recently urged Nubel to reject a move to Bayern and continue his development at Schalke by playing regularly. Die Roten will have to convince Nubel that he will get regular gametime despite the presence of Neuer at the club. Nubel’s arrival is likely to end Ulreich’s time at the club as he would like to play regularly at this stage of his career.
Neuer’s agent had publicly put pressure on the Bundesliga champions to start the contract talks. The reports in Germany last month suggested that Die Roten will soon hand him a new deal. There is no doubt Neuer still has a lot to offer at the top level, but handing him a new contract may scupper the chances of signing Nubel. This new contract will only work if Neuer agrees to be rotated heavily in the final years of his career.
