Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick clears the talk surrounding Javi Martinez
Bayern Munich assistant coach Hansi Flick insists that Javi Martinez is frustrated with less gametime this season.
It was a disappointing weekend for Bayern Munich as they suffered defeat against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. After results elsewhere in Germany on Saturday, Die Roten slipped to the third position in the league table, behind Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.
Javi Martinez didn’t feature against Hoffenheim as he remained an unused substitute on the bench. He was spotted on camera on Saturday showing his disappointment while sitting on the bench.
The Spanish midfielder has been struggling to get regular gametime at Bayern this season. Martinez is yet to start a game for Die Roten this season. He has made five appearances for the German Champions across all the competitions.
Speaking to Spox, Bayern’s assistant manager Hansi Flick admitted that Martinez is just frustrated with gametime at the club. He also rubbished the claims that the Spanish midfielder broke down into tears on the bench.
"“It’s clear that a player cannot be happy when he’s not playing. Every player wants to play.”“But what was made out of it is too much. Every player will be needed and will get his chances with us.”"

David Alaba and Lucas Hernandez will need time to recover from their respective injuries, forcing Kovac to keep Kimmich in defense. In the center of the park, Thiago Alcantara and Corentin Tolisso are currently struggling to provide the right balance. Niko Kovac may have to bring Martinez back into the midfield after the international break.
The 31-year-old midfielder will be able to provide stability and control in the central midfield. However, it will take some impressive performances from Martinez to become a permanent fixture in the starting lineup. Kimmich has strengthened the case of being the first choice holding midfielder at the club.
It will be a huge surprise if Martinez stays at Bayern beyond next summer. The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire in 2021, but he will have to look for a transfer to get regular gametime. Moreover, the Bundesliga club will like to see Mikael Cuisance play a much prominent role in midfield next season.
Martinez has been a fine player for Bayern in the last seven seasons. He has played a major role in Die Roten’s success in this decade, including the historic treble in 2013. The Spanish midfielder will go down as one of the most successful transfers in the club’s history, but next summer is the right time for the player to move on to a new adventure.
