According to a report in Spain, Bayern Munich is already considering to break their transfer record to sign Philippe Coutinho permanently from Barcelona.

Despite a strange summer window, Bayern Munich have managed to pull off some good transfers. Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard look settled in defense, while Ivan Perisic also made a positive start to his career in Bavaria. In the last couple of weeks, Philippe Coutinho started showing his class on the pitch more consistently.

The Brazilian forward started slowly this season after missing pre-season due to participation in Copa America. Moreover, he had to complete a move to Bayern late in the transfer window. It was always going to be a tricky start to the season, but Coutinho managed to get back his fitness to the desired levels quickly.

After delivering consistent performances in the last two-three weeks, the Spanish media is already reporting that Bayern wants to sign him permanently. According to Sport, Bayern chiefs are very impressed with Coutinho, and they want to break their transfer record to sign him next summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten have the option to sign him permanently next summer for €120 million. If the Bundesliga club activates this option, then they will smash their transfer record for the second summer in a row. Earlier this year, they signed Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for club-record €80 million.

Coutinho scored his first goal against FC Cologne two weeks ago. Robert Lewandowski allowed him to take the penalty to open his account for the club. After seven days, he managed to score his first goal from open play against SC Paderborn. His playmaking abilities have been superb as he also grabbed two assists across these two Bundesliga games.

The Brazilian also shone for Die Roten during their Champions League games against Red Star Belgrade and Tottenham Hotspurs. Niko Kovac also praised the Brazilian for his debut performance for Die Roten in the Champions League. On the back of these performances, Coutinho managed to strengthen his case to be first choice number ten at the club, ahead of Thomas Muller.

However, the sample size is small to judge Coutinho’s impact at Bayern. The club is heavily linked with Kai Havertz, so Coutinho will have to maintain this form throughout the campaign to seal a permanent move to Germany. The signs are promising for Coutinho at Bayern, but it is too early for the club to make a decision regarding permanent transfer.
