Two Bayern Munich players were nominated in the list of 40 players nominated for the 2019 Golden Boy award.

Bayern Munich decided to go down the route of signing young players to improve the spine of their squad. The Bundesliga champions released several senior players to make space for these young players.

These young players are some of the best prospects in the game right now. It was not a huge surprise that two of these players were nominated for the 2019 Golden Boy awards. Mikael Cuisance and Alphonso Davies have made it to the final list of 40 nominees for this award.

Dejan Joveljic, Kai Havertz, Ibrahima Konate, and Jadon Sancho are the other Bundesliga players featuring in this list. Matthijs De Ligt and Joao Felix are the other big names featuring on this list. The winner of this award is set to be announced in January.

Renato Sanches is the last and only Bayern player to win this award. The Portuguese international won this award in 2016 after sealing the big move from Benfica to Bavaria. Kingsley Coman was also nominated for this award in 2016. He finished third in the final list behind Marcus Rashford and Sanches.

More from Bayern Strikes

Alphonso Davies still needs time to firmly establish himself in Die Roten’s starting eleven. However, Bayern rates him highly and expects the 18-year-old forward to become a key player for them in the future. Davies became the most expensive MLS transfer in 2018 before Newcastle United broke this record to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United in January 2019.

Lothar Matthaus is backing Davies to become an important player for the German club in future. Davies has ten senior appearances for Bayern’s senior team under his belt in last nine months. He managed to find the back of the next two times during these ten games. Davies is a promising talent, but still needs time to polish the rough edges of his game.

Mikael Cuisance meanwhile joined Bayern last month from Borussia Monchengladbach. The French midfielder has been playing for Monchengladbach’s senior team for the past two seasons. Cuisance is rated as one of the best young midfielders in the Bundesliga. He is unlikely to feature regularly in starting eleven at Bayern, but the Frenchman is destined to be a top player for the German team in future.

Cuisance and Davies are not favorites to win this award. However, there is no doubt about the two young prospects having the quality to become successful players at Bayern. Die Roten will have a big role to play in developing these players and fulfill their potential.
