Former Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni backs Robert Lewandowski to help the club win numerous trophies this season.

Bayern Munich endured a mixed start to the season, but Robert Lewandowski has been in red hot form. Niko Kovac has set his team well in most of the games this season, but inefficiency in the final third from forwards apart from Lewandowski led to draws against Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig.

The Polish striker has been scoring goals for fun, helping Die Roten to pick up crucial points in the Bundesliga. He has been the main source of goals for Bayern this season, something Kovac would like to change as relying on one forward is not the best idea.

Lewandowski is the top scorer in Europe this season with 11 goals across all competitions. The Pole has managed to score nine goals in five league games, which includes a hat-trick against FC Schalke in matchday two of the Bundesliga.

Luca Toni hailed the impact of Lewandowski at Bayern this season. The former Die Roten striker told Omnisport (via Goal), that Lewandowski strong presence in the box makes him one of the best strikers. The Italian is backing the Polish striker to lead Die Roten to success this year.

"“He is one of the best. I like him so much because he lives in the box and scores a lot of goals.”“Team success basically comes through strikers’ goals. Here we have a strong striker like Lewandowski and I am pretty sure he can lead Bayern to success.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

The clarity about his future at Bayern has most likely helped Lewandowski to elevate his performances this season. He was desperate to leave the German club last summer, but Bayern were not ready to entertain any offers for their attacking talisman.

Lewandowski eventually got his head down and scored 40 goals for Bayern last season across all competitions. The club publicly defended him when he was under scrutiny from Dietmar Hamann last year. Eventually, Lewandowski decided to extend his stay at the club and signed a new contract last month.

The Poland international will be staying at Bayern for the rest of the prime years of his career. He won numerous Bundesliga titles and DFB Pokal with Die Roten till now, but the Champions League trophy has eluded him. Lewandowski will be hoping that he can help Die Roten to bring back the prestigious European trophy back to Allianz Arena.

Bayern meanwhile will have no midweek games this week. The Bundesliga Champions jumped to second place in the league table after a comfortable victory over FC Cologne last weekend. They will now turn their attention to a trip to Paderborn on Saturday, before next week’s big Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspurs.
