Joshua Kimmich has high hopes for Germany and Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich wants to win Euros and Champions League in next one year.
Niko Kovac looks more settled at Bayern Munich this season despite an indifferent start to the Bundesliga campaign. The Croatian is settled on his starting lineup, allowing the team to deliver dominant performances. Die Roten have dropped points in two games, but there have been more positives than negatives about the team’s overall display.
Joshua Kimmich has been one of the key reasons for Die Roten’s good performances. The German midfielder is playing in holding midfield role. His positional change has helped in providing more stability to Bayern’s lineup.
The German international is eager to continue in this role, but he is likely to play in defense when Bayern decides to be more attacking than usual. His attacking influence gets diminished when he is playing in midfield, but his clever positional play in midfield provides more protection to defense.
Kimmich has set some big targets this season for club and country. Speaking to ZDF (via Kicker), Kimmich admitted that Bayern has the squad to compete in the Champions League. The midfielder is also confident about winning Euros with Germany, despite the latest setback against Netherlands.
"“If I look at the squad, then we have a lot of quality and can compete for the Champions League title.”“We can compete with this German squad for the title (Euros). Before the Dutch game I was a little more self-confident. We are not ready yet, there is still something missing, but after such defeat we should not throw everything over the pile.”"

Bayern has been starving for success in Champions League for the past six seasons. The Bundesliga team has been struggling in the knock out games against top European clubs. Die Roten lacked the cutting edge to beat teams such as Liverpool and Real Madrid in knockout games.
Niko Kovac enjoyed a satisfying group campaign with Die Roten last year but struggled to set his team properly against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Croatian will need better tactics to contain top European teams in this competition. Die Roten’s games against Tottenham Hotspurs in group stages this season will be good tests for the Croatian manager.
On the other hand, Joachim Low also needs to adapt and evolve with the German National team. He made some tough decisions by dropping Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng, and Thomas Muller from the team, making space for the younger players in the squad ahead of Euros. They are not favorites for this competition. However, the squad has some of the best young talents in Europe that can cause problems for any team in the world.
Kimmich will play a big role for club and country this year. The German international will have the onus of being a leader on and off the pitch for both teams. He was recently included in the team council by Kovac, adding more responsibility to his shoulders. Kimmich has begun the season in the best possible way. He will be looking to maintain this form over the next 12 months to achieve his targets for club and country.
