Bayern Munich is reportedly keeping a close eye on Thomas Tuchel’s situation at Paris-Saint Germain.

The Bundesliga champions have endured a mixed start to the campaign as they sit third in the league table, three points behind RB Leipzig. Bayern Munich also suffered a 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in DFL Supercup at the start of the season.

Surprisingly, Niko Kovac has not been attracting criticism this season compared to last year. The Croatian was under immense pressure throughout the last campaign. His future looked even more uncertain after every poor result.

Kovac eventually managed to weather the storm and guide Die Roten to Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double. The club chiefs left it too late in the season to confirm that Kovac will continue as Bayern’s manager. This uncertainty around Kovac was fuelled by numerous reports linking top managers to Bayern.

Thomas Tuchel was one of the few managers that were linked with a move to Bavaria. According to the latest report from L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Die Roten is still keeping a close eye on Tuchel’s situation at Paris-Saint Germain. Apart from Bayern, Manchester United is the other European club that is keeping tabs on Tuchel.

More from Bayern Strikes

Tuchel’s current contract at PSG is set to expire in 2021. The German manager won the league title in his debut season in France, but couldn’t get past the round of 16 stage in Champions League against Manchester United. PSG has delivered some impressive performances under Tuchel. The most recent was a 3-0 win against Real Madrid in Champions League this week.

The German manager’s impressive work during his two-year stint at Borussia Dortmund didn’t go unnoticed in Bavaria. Bayern Munich were heavily linked with Tuchel when Carlo Ancelotti was sacked in 2017. The Bundesliga champions eventually decided to hire Kovac as Tuchel decided to join PSG.

Kovac recently hinted that his work at Bayern this season is likely to be judged based on team’s performance in the Champions League. Die Roten has been suffering heartbreaks in knockout games of this competition. Last season was a new low for them as Liverpool knocked them out in the round of 16. Kovac deserves more time at Bayern, but this French report surely indicates that the club is keeping their options in case things go badly for the Croat this season.

Bayern Munich meanwhile received positive news on the injury front on Friday. David Alaba returned to training after suffering a thigh injury against RB Leipzig. He will need more time to start training with the first team, but early return to light training surely suggests that the injury is not serious.
