Kingsley Coman enjoying more responsibility at Bayern Munich
After the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, Kingsley Coman is enjoying more responsibility at Bayern Munich.
There was a summer clearout at Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions bid farewell to several senior players to start building a young team for present and future. The attacking department saw the most radical changes. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery decided to bring an end to their glittering career in Bavaria.
Bayern wanted to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City to fill the void left by this veteran duo. A serious injury to Sane in August effectively poured cold water on this transfer. Die Roten eventually signed Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan on a one-year loan deal.
The responsibility of delivering consistent performances in the wider position will lie on the shoulders of Perisic, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman despite the presence of versatile forwards in the squad. They will have to be productive in the final third to ease the goal-scoring burden of Robert Lewandowski.
Speaking to L’Equipe (via Bulinews), Coman admitted that he is enjoying this added responsibility. The French winger believes expectations are always there from him irrespective of what happened at the club this summer.
"“I like to take responsibility. But things haven’t changed that much compared to last year where people were already expecting a lot from me.”“Since last year, I’ve felt that my teammates have tried to involve me more. During a match, Thomas Müller came up to me and said, ‘It’s up to you to make the difference’. I like having that responsibility.”"

Coman has won numerous trophies at Bayern in the past four seasons, but he has struggled to remain fit over a long period. He has spent a lot of time on the treatment due to various serious injuries. Despite his poor injury record, Die Roten decided to sign him permanently from Juventus and extended his contract till 2023.
The Frenchman enjoyed his most productive season in a Bayern shirt last year, but still managed to feature in only 31 games across all competitions. Niko Kovac should try to manage his workload by rotating him properly with other forwards.
Coman has started this season on a fine note as he has been involved in five goals in the five games across all competitions. Die Roten will be hoping that Coman finally has some luck on the injury front and enjoys his most prolific season in Bavarian colors.
Philippe Coutinho, Jann-Fiete Arp, and Alphonso Davies are other players in the squad along with Gnabry and Perisic that can play in wider positions. The variety of options and the potential arrival of Leroy Sane makes the situation tricky for Coman. This season has to be the breakthrough year for the Frenchman where he plays regularly and takes his game to a different level.
