Serge Gnabry wants to win Champions League with Bayern Munich after a successful debut season with the club.

Bayern Munich has been a dominant force in domestic competitions. The German club managed to defend their Bundesliga title last season, despite delivering inconsistent performances throughout the season.

Niko Kovac managed to keep his job after guiding the club to a domestic double, as Die Roten clinched an emphatic victory over RB Leipzig in DFB Pokal final. The most disappointing performance under Kovac came in the Champions League as Die Roten were knocked out by Liverpool in the round of 16.

The Croatian manager will be expected to defend these titles this season and help the club to go far in the Champions League. Speaking to DAZN (via Goal), Serge Gnabry insisted that the players are determined to bring Champions League trophy back to Bavaria. The German winger also insisted that he also wants to help the younger talents coming through the club’s academy.

"“Now that I have won the championship and the cup with Bayern, I also want to win the Champions League. This is a dream that I and everyone in the team has.“I’m satisfied with my playing time, that’s the most important thing. Over time, I want to slip into a role where, at 24, I can help the boys who come up – the way I was helped.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Since 2013, there have been numerous close defeats for Bayern in the European competition. Pep Guardiola dominated the domestic competitions but failed to get past the semi-final stages of the Champions League during his three-year stint at the club.

The German club decided to hire Carlo Ancelotti after Guardiola’s departure. The Italian manager has been successful in Europe’s premier competition, but he also failed to help Bayern win this trophy in solitary season at the club. Jupp Heynckes, who guided Bayern to a historic treble in 2013 came close to reaching finals of this competition during his interim stint at the club in 2017/18 season.

Gnabry will have to be at his best if Bayern hopes to clinch Champions League title this season. The German winger is determined to take his game to the next level this season. He enjoyed a brilliant debut season. The club rewarded him with a new contract while the fans voted him for the player of the year award. After the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, Die Roten will be hoping that Gnabry steps up and further increase his productivity in the final third.

Bayern is set to kick off the Bundesliga campaign later tonight. The defending champions are set to host Hertha Berlin. Kovac will be hoping that his team manages to keep up a good level of consistency in their performances throughout the campaign. The Croatian also needs to come with new ideas to compete well against the top European clubs.
