Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has piled on the praise for the reserves midfielder Sarpreet Singh.

There have been numerous arrivals in the junior teams at Bayern Munich this summer. The German club has been looking to sign some of the best young talents from various parts of the globe.

Sarpreet Singh is one of these exciting players that joined Bayern in June. The Kiwi midfielder’s impressive performances for the national team and Wellington Phoenix convinced Die Roten to complete this transfer. After training with the reserves team in Austria, Singh was drafted in the senior squad for the pre-season tour.

Singh got limited opportunities during the pre-season friendlies, but he managed to impress Niko Kovac in these appearances. The 20-year-old midfielder has been included in the squad for today’s DFL Supercup clash against Borussia Dortmund. Speaking to media (via Goal) on Friday, Kovac admitted that Singh is ready to play for the first team.

"“He’s a good catch. He was planned for the second team but he’s shown that he’s already a long way ahead of many others.”“I’m very pleased for him and pleasantly surprised. With him and Alphonso Davies, you can see they are much further ahead of the others in the second team.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Despite having slim chances of playing against Dortmund, Singh will learn a lot from his first Der Klassiker experience. The Kiwi midfielder will also benefit from training with the first team throughout the next season.

Bayern has lost two key players in attack as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery brought down the curtain on their glittering career in Bavaria. The Bundesliga champions are looking to sign a winger to offset these departures. Leroy Sane is the key transfer target for Die Roten and there have been positive reports lately indicating that this deal can be completed.

Singh can also be an option for Bayern if they sign only one winger this summer. He primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but has the characteristics to do a decent job on the flanks. The initial rounds of DFB Pokal will be the ideal scenario for Kovac to integrate Singh into the first team.

The Kiwi midfielder is likely to play regularly for the reserves team this year, but high praise from Kovac surely indicates that he could make his competitive debut for the first team. Bayern Munich has many promising talents in junior teams. The German club just needs to figure out a concrete plan for these teenage talents, which will help them to eventually become key players for the first team.
