Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is excited about new Bundesliga campaign and anticipates a tight title race with Borussia Dortmund.

Niko Kovac endured a challenging debut campaign at Bayern Munich but found a way to finish on a strong note. Die Roten managed to retain the Bundesliga title after being involved in an exciting title race with Borussia Dortmund. After the league title, Bayern delivered a fantastic performance against RB Leipzig in DFB Pokal final.

The Croatian manager was able to keep his job after being under tremendous pressure throughout the season. His key players stood out in the second half of the season and helped Die Roten to end the campaign with two trophies.

Thomas Muller was one of these important players that managed to deliver in clutch situations. Speaking to BayernTV (via Bundesliga.com), Muller admitted that he is expecting a tight title race with Dortmund next season. The German forward is impressed with the summer transfer business done by Dortmund.

"“It’s going to be an exciting season.”“Dortmund were really good last season and now they’ve tried to improve their squad. We’ll have to wait and see how their new signings perform.”“I think the Bundesliga can look forward to the new season, as I am too. It’s going to be interesting and it’ll be fun to be top of the table.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Bayern will be without numerous Bundesliga title winners next season. The German club has sold Mats Hummels to Dortmund while the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, and Rafinha were released.  Die Roten also decided against signing James Rodriguez on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid.

Muller admits that it will be strange to be without so many experienced players in the squad. However, the German forward is confident that this group of players will adapt and do well next season.  Muller has an important role to play next season both on and off the pitch.

The German forward was not productive last season as he previously used to be, but his inclusion in the lineup made Bayern’s attack more fluid. His playing time in the second-striker role will increase due to the departure of James. Muller will be a key figure in the dressing room. His experience will be important in helping the new players in settling at the club.

The Bundesliga champions will play three pre-season friendlies on this tour to get the optimum match fitness for all the players. Bayern will officially begin their season with a DFL Supercup clash against Borussia Dortmund on August 4.
