The French defender is confident about featuring for Bayern Munich in the first game of the season.
Bayern Munich is set to begin pre-season training next week before flying out to the United States to take part in International Champions Cup. This summer tour will be different for Die Roten as numerous veteran players have departed after a long spell at the club.
Lucas Hernandez is one of the three new players that the Bundesliga champions have signed for next season. The Frenchman officially became a Bayern player on Monday and he was handed the number 21 in the squad.
The Bundesliga champions announced his signing in March after he suffered a season-ending knee injury. Speaking to FC Bayern TV (via Bundesliga.com), Hernandez gave an update regarding his recovery from the knee injury. The Frenchman is confident that he will be ready by the time season begins in August.
"“I’m easing myself back into training.”“I hope to be 100 percent fit in time for the start of the season. I’m taking things step by step and am improving each day. I’ll soon be fit to give absolutely everything for this badge and shirt.”"

Hernandez also insisted that joining Bayern is a big step up in his career and he is aiming to win major trophies next season. The 23-year-old defender emerged as a key defensive transfer target for Die Roten in the winter transfer market. Atletico Madrid refused to budge on his release clause and didn’t sanction a transfer midway through the season.
The German champions eventually broke their transfer record to seal this transfer. They moved quickly in order to avoid any competition for the World Cup winner. Hernandez is expected to play in the central defense next season. Niklas Sule will ideally be the other center-back in the starting eleven as the club bank on young defenders to make them a solid defensive unit.
Hernandez was not the only player that completed a transfer to Bayern on Monday. Benjamin Pavard also underwent medical to complete the formalities left in his transfer from VfB Stuttgart. The Bundesliga champions will be hoping that these French defenders help them in achieving short and long term goals.
Bayern might have to look for one more central defender this summer after the departure of Mats Hummels. Jerome Boateng is likely to depart as the club is ready to listen offers for him. The German club reportedly held talks with Ozan Kabak but the Turkish defender opted to join Schalke. Kevin Vogt has emerged as the new candidate for this role.
