RB Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Ragnick has admitted that Timo Werner has refused to sign a new contract despite no offer from Bayern Munich yet.

Bayern Munich is yet to make major moves in the transfer market since lifting the DFB Pokal at the end of last month. The Bundesliga champions are facing major complications in the deals for their first choice targets

Timo Werner and Leroy Sane have emerged as the primer transfer targets for Die Roten in the attacking department. The deals for these two players have hit an impasse due to the excessive transfer fee demanded by their respective clubs.

Werner is determined to join only Bayern this summer despite the reported interest from Liverpool. Speaking to Kicker, Leipzig’s Sporting Director Ralf Ragnick confirmed that Werner has no interest in signing a contract extension. Ragnick also admitted that there has been no official approach from any top club for Werner. He further added that Leipzig is the best possible club for Werner right now.

"“Timo is of the opinion that he does not want to extend the contract, but so far, no club has yet reported, said he would agree with Timo and want to commit him.”“My opinion is that Timo fits best here, also in terms of style of play, if I were his advisor or father, I would clearly advise him to stay and extend.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

The German striker has reportedly already agreed terms with Bayern but the club is ready to wait till next summer to sign him on a free transfer. Leipzig meanwhile wants a fee around €60 million for their main striker despite having only one year left on his contract. Ragnick is set to leave the position of Sporting Director at the end of the month. It will be interesting to see whether Leipzig change their stance on Werner after the arrival of the new sporting director.

Bayern currently needs at least one signing in the attacking department due to the departure of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Sane will be the ideal replacement for these two departing veteran players. However, Werner is looking more realistic option right now as Leipzig might be forced to reach a compromise with Bayern instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

Werner will also be able to manage the workload of Robert Lewandowski. The German is primarily a number nine but he can also deliver good performances on the left flank. His versatility will also allow Kovac to be flexible with various systems.

Bayern Munich is also unlikely to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer as the teenager is close to signing a new contract at Chelsea. There have been reports in France this month suggesting that Die Roten are negotiating with Lille for Nicolas Pepe. However, the German reports insist that the Bayern chiefs have doubts regarding the Ivory Coast winger. It is looking likely that the attacking signing this summer for Bayern is going to be either Sane or Werner.
