The latest report from Germany indicates that Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels is close to reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been involved in some of the most high profile transfer dealings in the past few years. This summer could be no different as Mats Hummels is heavily linked with a return to Dortmund.
Hummels has reportedly been identified as the ideal player by Dortmund that can help them to win major trophies next season. Die Roten are also ready to sell Hummels despite his strong end to the last season. The Bundesliga champions are revamping their squad this summer by signing younger players.
The latest update from Germany on this transfer surely indicates that it is just a matter of when rather than if for this move to happen. According to Kicker, Hummels has given green light to this transfer and he is close to agreeing to a three-year contract with Dortmund. The German defender is eager to complete this move as he doesn’t feel acknowledged at Bayern.

This report also insists that Bayern and Dortmund are far part in their evaluation of the 30-year-old center-back. Die Roten are not ready to sell for the widely reported €25 million fee and Dortmund is not eager to go over that for an older defender. The two clubs will be hoping to reach an agreement over the transfer fee before the start of pre-season next month.
The opportunity of getting more gametime at Dortmund might have convinced Hummels to make this decision. He will struggle to play regularly in Bavaria due to the arrivals of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. However, Bayern would have like to keep him for one more season as the club wants Jerome Boateng to leave this summer.
Hummels has enjoyed a decent amount of success with Bayern in the past three years. He couldn’t win the Champions League trophy with Die Roten but Hummels will still fondly look back at these three years in Bavaria. Earlier this year Hummels has lost his place in the German national team. He will have a better chance of winning back this place by playing regularly at Dortmund.
This transfer ticks all the boxes for Hummels right now and hence there is no surprise that he is close to agreeing terms with Dortmund. The negotiations between the two clubs are going to drag for some time but eventually, they will find a compromise as all the three parties want this transfer to happen.
