Departing Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has been linked with a shock move to newly-promoted Premier League side Sheffield United.

There are going to be many departures at Bayern Munich this summer. Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, and Rafinha are all leaving the club when their contracts expire at the end of this month. Rafinha has already completed a move to Flamengo, while the next destinations of Robben and Ribery are not yet clear.

Ribery announced his departure from Bayern at the end of the season after enjoying a lot of success during his 12-year stint. The Frenchman remained coy over his future throughout the season as he refused to rule out staying at the club for one more season.

Bayern eventually decided against giving him a new contract as they hope to begin building a young squad that can win trophies in both the present and future. Ribery has been linked with moves to various clubs across the globe, but he is yet to make a final decision on his next destination.

More from Bayern Strikes

Sheffield United is the latest club showing interest in the French winger. According to Kicker (via transfermarkt), the newly promoted Premier League club wants to add Ribery to their squad this summer. However, Ribery is not keen on making this move and still wants to wait for an offer from a top club in Europe.

Ribery’s ambition of playing at the top level surely contradicts the previous report suggesting that he would be interested in a move to Qatar. Galatasaray has also been linked with Ribery. The Turkish club could eventually be the best destination for Ribery to fulfill his current demands. A move to the Premier League with a promoted side is not exactly what Ribery would like right now.

The offered playing time and financial package should be the main criteria for Ribery at this moment in his career. A more intense league might once again trigger the frequent injuries which he suffered in his final few campaigns at Bayern.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, continues to work hard to secure their replacement for the departing veteran duo. The club remains interested in signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City, but the demands of the English club could scupper this deal. The Bavarians continue to be linked with other wingers like Nicolas Pepe and Timo Werner, while Yannick Carrasco is the latest name popping up for this position.
