Bayern Munich reportedly lower asking price for Jerome Boateng
Bayern Munich have reportedly lowered their asking price for veteran defender Jerome Boateng and now only demand €15 million.
There are going to be several changes made to the Bayern Munich squad this summer. The Bavarians are expected to make some big signings in order to build a young squad that can help them win silverware for many seasons.
The Bundesliga champions will also have to find a way to facilitate the departures of some of the club’s fringe players to make room for the new signings. Jerome Boateng is one such player who looks certain to leave the club this summer after falling out of favor under Niko Kovac.
Uli Hoeness has already advised Boateng to find a new club as he will be frustrated with even fewer minutes on the pitch next season due to the arrivals of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard. The club’s CEO also shares a similar opinion about Boateng. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted in his interview with Sport Bild that the club needs to find a satisfactory solution for all parties.

According to another report from Sport Bild, Bayern hope to get a fee in the region of €15 million for the World Cup-winning defender. This fee is considerably low compared to what the club was looking for last summer. Boateng’s performances have dipped this season, which has likely affected the market for him this summer.
The 2014 World Cup winner still believes he is ready to fight for a place in the starting XI next season. Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have been heavily linked with the German defender, but there have been no reports about a serious bid made by these two clubs. He was very close to joining the French giants last summer, but the two clubs struggled to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
Boateng also rejected an offer from Manchester United at the end of the summer transfer window last year. It will be a huge surprise if the English club comes back with a new offer this summer. The German will be hoping that he gets a chance to move to a top European club as he is still too young to consider a switch to MLS or the Chinese League.
It is essential that Bayern Munich are able to offload Boateng this summer. The club needs to trim its wage structure in order to balance the books for the new signings. Boateng has been a fine player for Bayern since his arrival from Manchester City in 2010, but his departure this summer is the best possible scenario for all parties involved.
