Bayern Munich CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge gives his thoughts on the numerous players heavily linked with a move to his club.

It is a summer of upheaval at Bayern Munich, as the Bundesliga champions are looking to rebuild their squad after releasing numerous veteran players. Die Roten moved quickly to secure their defensive targets even before the end of the season. The club will now focus on other areas in the rest of the summer transfer window.

There have been several reports linking top attacking players to Bayern throughout the season. The club is looking to sign at least one offensive star to help take the team to another level next season.

Bayern have always tried to sign top German talent in the Bundesliga, and that theme likely won’t discontinue any time soon. Speaking to Sport Bild, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge gave his thoughts about the young Germans who have been linked with a move to Bavaria this season.

The club’s CEO insisted that they are not going to make a move for Kai Havertz this summer, despite some heavy links. Rummenigge, however, refused to confirm or deny whether the Bundesliga champions will make a move for Havertz next summer.

"“I asked Rudi how Leverkusen plans with Kai Havertz. He told me: There is a decision in Leverkusen with the chairman of the supervisory board, Mr Werner Wenning, that the player definitely plays in Leverkusen next season.“I’m not a friend of anticipating things in advance if there are twelve months in between. That’s not so easy to manage. Kai Havertz is a good player, we do not need to talk about that. But he has a contract until 2022.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

The 2018-19 season was a breakout one for Kai Havertz. He was always rated highly from a younger age, but he recently took his game to a different level and ended up with brilliant numbers in the final third.

Bayern decided against making the permanent signing of James Rodriguez earlier this month. Havertz would have been a fine replacement for the Colombian, but Bayern have more important areas to address this summer.

Rummenigge also confirmed in his interview that RB Leipzig have no plans to let Timo Werner leave on a free transfer next year. He further added that Bayern have not yet made any approach to RB Leipzig for the player.

There were prior reports suggesting Bayern are ready to wait till next summer for Werner. Moreover, the German striker reportedly has his heart set on a move to Bavaria, and it is just a matter of this or next year for the move to happen.

Bayern’s CEO also spoke about the club’s pursuit of Leroy Sane. He gave no new updates on that transfer and hinted that the player is yet to make a personal decision on where he sees his future. Uli Hoeness has been publicly pessimistic about this transfer due to the high fee, while Rummenigge has insisted that the club will only make a move if Sane decides he wants to return to the Bundesliga.

These three German players are huge talents and have the potential to be amongst the best in Europe. Bayern should do everything possible to get this trio at the club in the next two summer windows. They will not only fill the voids left by the departing senior players but also upgrade the overall quality of the squad.
