Recent reports suggest Bayern Munich are unlikely to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea as the teenager is apparently close to signing a new contract.
Bayern Munich need to address their attacking department in this summer’s transfer market. Die Roten need at least one wide player to fill the void left by Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. The veteran wingers were released by Bayern after providing immaculate service at the club for a decade.
Callum Hudson-Odoi emerged as the top transfer target for the Bundesliga champions in the January transfer window. The English teenager is considered one of the hottest attacking prospects in Europe. Hudson-Odoi was struggling to get minutes at Chelsea in the first half of the season, so Bayern were eager to take advantage of this situation and bring him to the Bundesliga.
Chelsea stood firm, though, and rejected numerous bids from the German giants during the winter mark. Bayern insisted that they would come back for him in summer, since he now has only one year left on his contract. However, the latest update from England about Hudson-Odoi’s contract situation could put to end any speculation of a move to Bayern.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi are very close to reaching an agreement over a new, long-term deal. The England international is likely to be handed the number ten jersey at Chelsea after Eden Hazard completes his move to Real Madrid. Both the Independent and Goal are also reporting about this breakthrough in talks between Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea.
The view from Germany is a bit different, however, after the reports of this contract extension emerged today. Bild’s Christian Falk insists that Hudson-Odoi could still end up at Bayern this summer.
The 18-year-old was desperate to join Bayern in January and tried to force the move by handing in transfer request. Playing regularly in the second half of the season might have influenced Hudson-Odoi’s decision to extend his stay at Chelsea.
The player is currently recovering from an achilles injury which he suffered in April and is expected to be out of action until October. Bayern’s chiefs insisted that even with his current injury problems they are interested in signing him this summer. The next couple of weeks should eventually decide the fate of this transfer saga.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, meanwhile, told Sport Bild yesterday that Leroy Sane is yet to make his intention clear about leaving Manchester City. The Bavarians have not made any offers to City for the player and will not do so until it is clear Sane is interested in a move to Munich. It will be interesting to see who Die Roten will target if the deals for Hudson-Odoi and Sane end up falling through.
