Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is not confident his club will be able to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City this summer.
Bayern Munich are set to begin their massive squad overhaul this month as they pursue their primary targets in the summer transfer market. Die Roten have numerous areas to address in this window due to the departures of some senior players. However, the attacking department remains the most pressing area of improvement for the Bundesliga champions.
There have been numerous reports linking top attacking talents with a move to Bavaria this summer. In the last few weeks, Leroy Sane has emerged as the primary candidate for Bayern. The German club has also publicly declared their interest in the 23-year-old winger.
The latest update over Bayern’s pursuit of signing Sane is not exactly promising, though. Speaking to Kicker, Uli Hoeness admitted that it will be very difficult to sign the German international this summer. The Bayern president believes the transfer fee will be a major stumbling block.
"“We have to be a bit skeptical.“It’s rather unlikely that it gets done. It’s about figures which are insane.”"

There was a lot of talk about Manchester City rejecting Bayern’s first bid for Sane in the region of €80 million. However, the latest report from the Daily Mirror suggests that the German club is yet to make any contact with the Premier League Champions. Sport Bild’s Christian Falk also insisted that the rumors of a Bayern bid for Sane are false.
Moreover, it is being reported in Germany that Sane is not exactly keen on making a return to the Bundesliga. The German international struggled to get regular gamet under Pep Guardiola last season, which might eventually force him to look for a new club, however. Sane has also reportedly stalled contract talks with the English giants.
Man City are currently on the stronger side of negotiations as Sane still has two years left on his contract and Bayern are desperately in need of a young wide forward. Bayern will have to break their transfer record for a second time in the space of just a few months in order to complete the signing of Sane. They broke their previous record to sign Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for €80 million earlier this year.
Die Roten will move on to other alternatives if they fail to reach an agreement with City for Sane. Callum Hudson-Odoi was the top transfer target for Bayern in January, but his current injury might delay this transfer. There has also been a lot of talk about Timo Werner and Nicolas Pepe throughout the last season. The Bundesliga champions might try to sign one of these players if the Sane deal is off the table.
