Bayern Munich have reportedly made their first bid for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, offering the Premier League winners €80 million.

The transfer rumors are gathering pace as clubs across Europe have begun the execution of their summer plans. Bayern Munich have already made a couple big signings for next season, even before the window is yet to officially open in Germany. However, the Bundesliga champions are expected to make even more additions in the coming weeks.

Die Roten need to address numerous positions in the squad as a handful of veteran players are leaving the club this summer. The defense has been addressed in an emphatic manner by the signings of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard. Bayern will now switch their attention to signing a marquee winger to offset the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Leroy Sane has emerged as the prime candidate for this role over the course of the past week. The German winger is reportedly unhappy with his limited game time at Manchester City this season, and Bayern are looking to capitalize on the situation and bring Sane back to the Bundesliga.

More from Bayern Strikes

The latest update on Bayern’s pursuit of Sane has come courtesy of Sky and Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Italian insisted on Thursday in his column for the Guardian that Bayern are set to test Man City’s resolve by putting in a £70 million bid. Romano updated his report on Friday, claiming that the Germans have made their bid, although it came in the region of €80 million, and City are yet to respond to the offer.

Bayern’s interest in Sane was also reported by Goal earlier today. This outlet insisted that Bayern Munich are favorites to sign the 23-year-old winger as contract talks between the player and Man City have stalled. The English champions already have transfer targets planned in case Sane decides to move back to Germany. They are likely to reject the first bid from Bayern, but an improved offer close to €100 million might tempt them to cash in on the winger who is deliberating over signing a new deal.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also confirmed Bayern’s interest in Sane while speaking to Sport Bild today. The club’s CEO failed to give any promises over this signing but insisted that they will work hard to find a solution for the transfer. Rummenigge also refused to rule out the possibility of signing both Sane and Callum Hudson-Odoi. The next couple of weeks will give a fair indication where Bayern stand in the negotiations for these two players.

There is no doubt that Sane will massively improve Bayern’s attacking options. The Germany international has struggled to start regularly this season, but his productivity in the final third is still impressive. This transfer will be expensive, but Sane has the potential to be the game-changer Bayern have missed in the Champions League for the past few seasons.
