Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Serie A side Inter Milan.
The 2018-19 Bundesliga campaign came to a thrilling end for Bayern Munich this weekend when they won their seventh consecutive league title. Die Roten have a chance to complete the domestic double when they face RB Leipzig in the DFB Pokal final on Saturday.
Bayern Munich will then turn their focus to the transfer market next week. There are going to be a lot of changes made to the squad for next season as the German giants looks to build a younger team that can compete on all fronts.
The Bavarians have already confirmed the departures of some veteran players to make room for new arrivals. They will also be looking to cash in on some of the club’s fringe players. Jerome Boateng is one players for whom Bayern might be ready to listen to offers this summer.
The most recent report in Germany is linking Boateng with a move to Italy. According to Bild (via Onefootball), Boateng has emerged as a transfer target for Inter Milan. This report insists that the German defender might be sold for around €20 million.

The mentioned transfer fee is considerably low compared to what Bayern wanted last summer, but such has been Boateng’s decline. I Nerazzurri have also shown interest in signing Arjen Robben on a free transfer and could perhaps be interested in a double swoop for Bayern’s veterans.
Bild‘s report has been denied by Sky Deutschland, however. They insist that Boateng is not in talks with any clubs right now and that a final decision on his future is likely to be taken after the DFB Pokal final. The prospect of staying at Bayern for one more season is not yet completely ruled out.
Earlier this month, ESPN also reported that Boateng sees Italy as a realistic destination this summer. Inter Milan will likely play in the Champions League next season, so it’s not unrealistic to assume this move could come to fruition if Boateng decides to leave Bavaria. The German defender has fallen down the pecking order under Niko Kovac, and his time on the pitch will significantly decrease with the arrivals of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard.
Bayern Munich missed out on the chance of getting a big fee for Boateng last summer. Paris Saint-Germain were involved in intense negotiations with the German club but couldn’t reach an agreement on a transfer fee. Boateng’s stock has fallen this season, and this summer could be the last opportunity for Bayern to get any sort of profit for the Germany international.
