If there’s any chance Bayern Munich can sign Leroy Sane this summer, the Bavarians must go all in for the Germany international.
Bayern Munich are in for a massive summer as they undergo one of the biggest squad rebuilds in a very long time. What happens over the next few months could have serious implications on whether or not Die Roten remain a powerhouse of European soccer for the next decade or fall back down to the second tier of clubs.
The Bayern board has already shown it means serious business by announcing the impending transfer of Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez for €80 million. The addition of his fellow France international Benjamin Pavard further shows the Bavarians are leaving nothing on the table in the summer transfer market.
Executives Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness are prepared to do whatever it takes to keep their club among Europe’s elite. However, adding two young defenders (though they’ve both won a World Cup, starting in the final) isn’t quite going to do the trick for the German giants. The club has to make additions in other areas of the pitch.

Most importantly, Bayern need a talented winger capable of helping bear the load of legendary duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, who will be leaving at the end of the season. Someone relatively young but still capable of challenging for a place in the starting lineup. Someone who is both a proven goal-scorer and creator. Someone like Leroy Sane.
If recent reports are to be believed, Sane’s departure from Manchester City this summer is a realistic possibility. The 23-year-old may have just won his second consecutive Premier League title, but he is apparently unhappy with his situation in Manchester.
Sane is not getting the playing time he deserves, and the spectacular form of his teammates Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva has not made things any better. His contract expires in 2021, and Manchester City might feel they need to sell him this summer or risk allowing him to run his deal down and leave on a free.
It was reported yesterday that Bayern Munich have taken note of the German’s situation and have already begun talks with Man City over a potential transfer for the young winger. Really, though, they would be insanely foolish if they didn’t.
If there’s even a slim chance this deal could go through, Bayern Munich have to make signing Leroy Sane their priority for the upcoming transfer window.
The former Schalke starlet ticks all the boxes for a marquee summer signing for the Bavarians. He’s young. He’s experienced at the top level. He’s one of the best in the world at his position. He’s German. He is a natural goal-scorer and creator. He’s left-footed — yes, that’s important.
On top of all this, Sane doesn’t seem to be entirely needed at his current club. At the very least, he’s not completely satisfied, and City might feel that selling him this summer is their last chance to make a good profit on the player. Furthermore, they’ll need to offload a few players in the summer to make room for new additions (not that they need the money, but they surely won’t be keen on undergoing a Financial Fair Play investigation).
Bayern Munich would likely have to again break their transfer fee record to sign Sane, but he’s worth the €80-100 million he’d cost the club. Even if Die Roten have to pay past the century mark, which they shouldn’t, Leroy Sane is worth it.
Bar maybe Kylian Mbappe, it’s hard to think of a player Bayern could use more than Leroy Sane. He’s not just the exact type of player needed at the club. He is the exact player needed at the club. Bayern Munich must make signing Leroy Sane their priority this summer.
