Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness heaps praise on Hasan Salihamidzic amid doubts over his abilities to be a successful sporting director.

The recruitment policy at Bayern Munich came under intense scrutiny last summer when they failed to address the glaring issues in their squad. Hasan Salihamidzic was facing the majority blame for Bayern’s lack of signings, as this was his first full summer transfer window since becoming the club’s sporting director in 2017.

There have been numerous outlets hinting that Salihamidzic’s days at the club are numbered. The former Bayern player has received support from both current players and the club CEO this season, but the reports linking Borussia Monchengladbach’s Max Eberl to this role are not fading away.

In an interview with ZDF (via Sport Bild), club president Uli Hoeness praised the work Salihamidzic has done at the club in the last two years. Hoeness also categorically dismissed the reports linking Eberl to Bayern and insisted that the club has complete faith in Brazzo. He further added that the Bosnian is a very hardworking person and that Bayern are satisfied with his overall contribution in the past two years.

"“It is completely wrong that we are currently interested in Max Eberl. Max does a very good job in Gladbach. We have Hasan and that’s enough for us.“Personally, I am very satisfied. We have made a good choice. Hasan is fully committed, inquisitive and incredibly hard-working, no work is too much for him.”"

Hoeness also admitted that Brazzo is slowly evolving in his role and is now more capable of making important decisions. The club president insisted that there are no doubts about Salihamidzic’s eye for talented young players. This summer will be the biggest test for Brazzo as Bayern begin the long-awaited rebuild of their aging squad.

The Bavarians will need to dig deep in the transfer market to sign the perfect replacements for their older players. Salihamidizic has shown signs of the club’s efficient approach to securing transfers with the deals made earlier this season.

Die Roten have already completed the overhaul of the struggling defensive department of their squad. They have acquired the signings of France internationals Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard long before the start of the transfer window.

Bayern’s next area of concern is attack as both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are leaving Munich at the end of this season. Salihamidzic has confirmed the club’s interest in Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. This transfer will check Brazzo’s resolve as Chelsea are unlikely to sell their youngster due to their recently given transfer ban.

Salihamidzic might also try to get a holding midfielder after Niko Kovac recently insisted the current squad lacks a dominating midfielder that can take them to next level. The transfer targets who have been linked with Bayern are very interesting, at least on paper, but the success of these new arrivals will decide Salihamidzic’s fate at the club. He needs to get things right this summer in order to earn a new contract at Bayern as his current deal expires in 2020.
