Bayern Munich midfielders Thiago Alcantara and James Rodriguez have reportedly emerged as two summer transfer targets for Paris Saint-Germain.

The transfer window is just around the corner, and many European clubs have begun executing their summer plans. Bayern Munich are well-known for their effective approach in the market, often looking to wrap up deals quickly and avoid getting involved in bidding wars for big players.

Bayern are looking to bring down the average age of their squad in the upcoming market. They want to build a side with young players who will be able to bring the Champions League trophy back to Germany. Their defensive problems have already been addressed, while there have been numerous reports hinting at additions in both midfield and attack.

Die Roten might make some shock sales this summer as well, as there were reports last summer that the club was open to listening to offers for some big players. This week’s transfer reports have put the spotlight on the futures of Thiago Alcantara and James Rodriguez.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to Paris United, Thiago Alcantara has emerged as a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain. Thomas Tuchel believes the Spanish midfielder is exactly the type of midfielder that PSG need. This report also insists that Bayern might be open to selling a big player this summer in order to make key additions to the squad.

Thiago was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern last summer. There were numerous reports suggesting that the Spanish midfielder could join Barcelona or Real Madrid as Bayern were ready to offload him.

However, there were no concrete offers, and Thiago ended up staying at Bayern. He has become a key player under Kovac, so it will be a huge surprise if Bayern sells him this summer.

The future of James Rodriguez is much more uncertain than that of Thiago. According to Sport Bild, PSG are more interested in acquiring the services of the Colombian midfielder. Their report suggests PSG are exploring making some huge changes to their squad after yet another early Champions League exit.

Bayern Munich don’t seem keen on permanently signing James from Real Madrid after a somewhat underwhelming loan spell. The Colombian reportedly doesn’t feel supported at Bayern and is not keen on staying at the club either. Real Madrid don’t want to keep him, though, so he is likely to play for a new club next season.

The situation of these two Bayern players is very different. Thiago has enjoyed a fruitful season, while James has endured a frustrating campaign due to injuries and poor form. The former has been a key player for Kovac, while the latter has fallen down the pecking order. There is a very slim chance of both these players playing at the same club next season.
