Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is reportedly attracting interest from numerous top European clubs.

The 2018-19 season is coming to its conclusion, and the rumor mill is set to implode with the transfer window just around the corner. Bayern Munich will undergo major squad surgery this summer as they look to replace some of their older faces with younger players. Apart from the expected departures of veteran players like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, some of the fringe players could also be sold by Die Roten.

Thomas Muller has been a key figure for Bayern Munich throughout the past decade. The German forward is not as effective as he used to be but still has a lot to offer at Bayern. However, a recent report in Germany suggests Muller is attracting interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

According to Kicker, Inter Milan and AC Milan have both made preliminary enquiries about Muller with a plan to bid for the player in the summer transfer window. This report also suggests that there is interest from a few Premier League clubs. Kicker insist that Muller is not exactly satisfied with his position under Niko Kovac.

More from Bayern Strikes

Muller has been a phenomenal player for Bayern over the past nine years. He has been one of the major reason for Bayern’s domestic dominance and played a massive role in Bayern winning the historic treble in 2013. The Raumdeuter was a key figure under numerous managers, but his most productive seasons came under Pep Guardiola. However, since the Spaniard’s departure, Muller has not exactly been the same player in the final third.

He struggled under Carlo Ancelotti, and as a consequence of his poor form the Italian manager demoted him to the bench in crucial games. He enjoyed a brief revival under Jupp Heynckes last season but couldn’t sustain it for a long time. This year he has contributed to 17 goals across all competitions, which is admittedly low for a player of his caliber.

Muller was given a run in his favored second striker role in the last few Bundesliga games. His overall play is still excellent and it massively helps in creating space for the other forwards. However, his lack of goals remains a concern. It will be interesting to see what plans Kovac has for Muller next season as he is no longer a guaranteed starter.

The German’s current contract in Bavaria is set to expire in 2021. Bayern stood firm when Manchester United made a huge offer for Muller in 2015. It will be interesting to see whether the club’s stance remains same this summer. Muller is unlikely to be a central figure of Bayern’s new team, but he surely has the ability to be one at another European club. This summer he might have to make a decision whether to accept a reduced role at Bayern, the only club he’s ever known, or start a new adventure.
