Despite their slip-up against Nurnberg yesterday, David Alaba is confident Bayern Munich will close out the season in a convincing fashion.
After Borussia Dortmund lost to FC Schalke 04 Saturday, Bayern Munich had a massive chance to take a four-point lead over their league rivals with a win against Nurnberg yesterday. Unfortunately, the Bavarians failed to step up to the occasion, barely scraping a 1-1 draw against their hosts.
Even so, Bayern still have a two-point lead over Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table. The title is certainly their’s to lose, and if they manage to at least win two of their games and draw the third, they will end the season as German champions yet again.
They face a couple of tricky opponents, however, between now and the end of the season. Die Roten host Hannover this weekend, visit 3rd-placed RB Leipzig next Saturday, then round off the 2018-19 season with a tricky test against Eintracht Frankfurt on May 18th.

It won’t be easy for the Bavarians, but they are more than capable of taking all nine points from their last three games, so getting seven shouldn’t be too big of an ask. Speaking with Bundesliga.com, David Alaba backed his team to finish the season in a strong manner. The Austrian full-back insisted that the squad has the right mentality and team spirit to deal with the pressure in the final gameweeks of this season.
"“We were well aware of the chance we had today, so the atmosphere right after the final whistle isn’t the best.“We have a great team, great team spirit and we know how to deal with the games at the end of the season. We all know that we have a chance to win the title and we’ll do everything to be successful at the end of the season.”"
Niko Kovac has fallen under some heavy criticism in his first season as Bayern manager. His side is still on track to win the domestic double, which would be a huge achievement for any manager in a new club, but that’s not enough for some.
Bayern Munich have been inconsistent throughout the season, rarely delivering a string of convincing performances without ruining it with a totally lackluster display. Hopefully the handful of additions Bayern will make over the summer will be enough to propel them back into the later rounds of the Champions League next season.
