Bayern Munich still want Callum Hudson-Odoi despite his injury
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness insisted that the club will still keep an eye on Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, despite his recent injury.
There will be at least one addition in the attacking department at Bayern Munich this offseason. Die Roten have young and talented young forwards in Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies. However, they still need at least one more winger to compensate for the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
Callum Hudson-Odoi emerged as the prime candidate for this position in the January window. Bayern reportedly made four offers for the teenager, but Chelsea stood firm to keep the player, despite him having only one year left on his contract. The England international has played more minutes in the past month, but he is yet to sign a new contract with Chelsea.
Hudson-Odoi suffered a massive setback earlier this week, when he ruptured his achilles tendon while playing against Burnley in the Premier League. The teenager is not going to play again this season after undergoing surgery on Wednesday. However, this injury has not dampened Bayern’s interest in the young forward. Speaking to the media (via Goal) after Bayern’s win over Werder Bremen in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday, Uli Hoeness admitted the club will still keep an eye on Hudson-Odoi in the summer window.
"“Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hasan Salihamidzic have said that [Hudson-Odoi] is an interesting player.“I think we keep thinking about it. But he’s just on the operating table. Therefore it makes no sense to comment on this.”"

Back in January, Bayern’s chiefs publicly admitted their interest in signing the teenager and even went on to say that they will come back for him in the summer. The 18-year-old was also very keen on joining Bayern reportedly. He has reportedly been offered the number ten jersey which is going to be vacated by Robben at the end of this season. Hudson-Odoi also handed in a transfer request to force the transfer, but Chelsea were in no mood to lose him midway through the season.
There is still an impasse between the English club and Hudson-Odoi over the talks for a new contract, but his injury could completely change the situation. Chelsea is also awaiting the result of their appeal to freeze the transfer ban placed on them for this summer. Considering the fact that Eden Hazard may be joining Real Madrid this summer, the Blues will be desperate to keep Hudson-Odoi.
Bayern Munich were not put off by the injury of Lucas Hernandez before signing him from Atletico Madrid last month. The Frenchman is expected to miss the preseason but is likely to be fit for the first game of next season. Hudson-Odoi will require a lot more time than Hernandez to recover completely from his injury.
Die Roten will have to assess all the conditions before making a move for Hudson-Odoi. The after effects of such an injury will be the key aspect for Bayern to consider as there are no doubts about the teenager’s ability. The Bavarians are not short of options in this position, though, as there are many talented young forwards in Europe, and the German giants have been heavily linked with a few of them.
