Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported earlier today that Bayern Munich have submitted a €70 million bid for Federico Chiesa.

Bayern Munich will face Werder Bremen tomorrow in a tough DFB Pokal semifinal clash. Despite their somewhat disappointing 2018-19 season, the Bavarians are still on track to win the domestic double, provided they can overcome Bremen tomorrow — then RB Leipzig in the final — and remain ahead of Borussia Dortmund in a tight Bundesliga title race.

As this season nears its end, however, Bayern’s front office is working hard to secure some big signings for the summer transfer window. They have already made deals for France internationals Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez, and they will now turn their attention to improving their attack.

Club legends Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are finally calling it quits in Munich this summer after a decade of terrorizing defenders inside the Allianz Arena. Although Bayern have two of the best young wingers in Europe in Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, they are still hoping to make an addition or two to their wide attacking areas.

More from Bayern Strikes

Many names have been linked with a move to Bavaria in recent months, including Italian wonderkid Federico Chiesa. The Fiorentina forward is tipped to move on to bigger and better things this summer, and Bayern are one of a few who clubs with a vested interest in the player.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, Bayern Munich recently submitted a €70 million offer to Fiorientina for Federico Chiesa’s services, which is slightly below Fiorentina’s asking price of €80 million.

Bayern are far from the only club hoping to sign Chiesa this summer, and many consider Italian giants Juventus to be the front-runner for the 21-year-old.

Chiesa is an undeniably talented player, who has been competing at the highest level in Italy for a few seasons already. His six goals and seven assists in Serie A this season show he’d be a fine addition to Bayern’s attack.

However, the question of whether or not he is the best option for the Bavarians must be asked. Lille’s Nicolas Pepe would cost the same amount as Chiesa — if not a little less — and is probably the better option for Die Roten. Unlike Chiesa, Pepe is left-footed and would bring something to the club that is not already offered by Serge Gnabry or Kinsgley Coman. Furthermore, the Ivorian is a bit further along in his development than his Italian counterpart.

Renato Sanches hopes to leave Bayern Munich this summer. dark. Next

That’s not to say that Chiesa would be a poor signing for Bayern Munich. However, they could probably find someone already a bit more established, but still young, for a similar price.
