Bayern Munich are reportedly hoping to send Renato Sanches out on loan next season after failing to really break into the first team this campaign.
A handful of the players at Bayern Munich head into the summer transfer market with their futures at the club uncertain. Die Roten are set to revamp their squad in the upcoming window by investing a large amount of money in young players.
Renato Sanches is one of the few players whose immediate future at Bayern remains up in the air. The young Portuguese midfielder has struggled to get much playing time under Niko Kovac this season, despite his promising start to the campaign.
According to Sport Bild’s Christian Falk (via sport.de), Bayern are hoping to arrange a loan for Sanches in the summer transfer window. There has been no mention of the potential destinations, but the 21-year-old midfielder will be desperate to join a club where he will play every week. The fact that they are considering a loan deal surely shows that Bayern still have hope that Sanches will eventually fulfill his potential at the club.

The former Benfica midfielder previously went on loan to Swansea City for the 2017-18 season. This temporary transfer turned into a nightmare for Sanches, though, as he struggled to break into the Premier League club’s first team. His terrible injury record over the course of last season didn’t make matters any better. It looked pretty certain that Bayern would decide to pull the trigger last summer and sell Sanches to recoup some of the €35 million transfer fee they paid to Benfica in 2016.
Niko Kovac, meanwhile, had different plans for the young midfielder. Paris Saint-Germain showed the most interest in the Portugal international, but Bayern decided to keep him for at least this season. Kovac said that Sanches has all the attributes to be a fine midfielder at Bayern, but he demanded patience from both the club and the player.
The Croatian has failed to back up his initial claims, though, and has not given Sanches much time on the pitch, even after 21-year-old made a good impression in the few opportunities he was given and notched his first competitive goal for the club. The Portugal international has been dropping hints about leaving the defending Bundesliga champions in the past few months. He is not happy with his situation, despite working hard to earn a regular place in the starting lineup.
Sanches needs to carefully make a decision on his destination as he has already suffered so many setbacks in his development. The 21-year-old has a contract with Bayern til 2021, so this is his last chance to show that he can make things work at the club. Die Roten are not giving up on him yet, but the club needs to get this loan spell spot on in order to satisfy all parties involved.
