Bayern Munich suffer double injury scare against Fortuna Dusseldorf
Bayern Munich suffered injuries to both Manuel Neuer and Mats Hummels during their 4-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Sunday.
The defending Bundesliga champions are back at the top of the table after a convincing 4-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Sunday. Bayern Munich delivered a perfect away performance but lost two key players to injury in the game. Manuel Neuer and Mats Hummels both picked up a knock against the mid-table side.
Neuer was substituted at the start of the second half after injuring the same calf that kept him out for a couple of games in March. Mats Hummels, meanwhile, completed the full 90 minutes against Dusseldorf but ended the game with an injury. He later confirmed on his instagram account that he was feeling pain in his hamstring.
Die Roten have now given an official update on the recovery process of both two players. Neuer is expected to be out for two weeks, so he is in contention to play for Bayern again this season.

Hummels, on the other hand, has a slight strain which should only keep him out of training for a few days. The German defender is likely to miss the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen at the weekend, but he should be fine to play in the DFB Pokal clash against the same opposition next week.
Neuer has been spent the majority of the past few seasons sidelined with a pair of metatarsal fractures. He eventually completed his full recovery at the start of this season, and has played most of the games under Niko Kovac. A few smaller scares, like a brief finger injury in January and calf injury in March, have kept him out of five games this season. Kovac will be hoping that Neuer is fit for the DFB Pokal final if they manage to overcome Bremen next week.
Mats Hummels, meanwhile, has had a phenomenal injury record at Bayern Munich since joining the club in 2016. The German defender has been a mainstay in the lineup for the majority part of his three seasons in Bavaria. His form has taken a dip this season, but his fitness has not been a concern — he has been available for almost every game this season.
Sven Ulreich will replace Neuer in goal for the next three games. Bayern’s backup goalkeeper has struggled to get gametime this season as Kovac has stuck with Neuer even in the cup competitions. Jerome Boateng will replace Hummels for this weekend’s game against Bremen at the Allianz Arena. Bayern will be hoping that these two players return to action quickly, though. The Bundesliga title race is going down to the wire, and they need their best players readily available.
