Bayern Munich show interest in Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo
According to information from Bild, 19-year-old Bayern Munich have been scouting AS Roma 19-year-old prodigy Nicolo Zaniolo.
Bayern Munich are undoubtedly in for their biggest ever summer spending spree. The Bavarians have been approaching the need for a squad overhaul for a few seasons now, and it’s finally happening.
Die Roten have already secured moves for France internationals Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. The two central defenders, both equally capable of playing at full-back as well, will be massive additions to Bayern’s back line.
The club will now turn its attention to the other areas of the pitch that need addressing. A deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner seems to be on the cusp of completion, while the club has confirmed their hopes to sign at least one player for the wings this summer.

Although it’s the most complete part of their squad, Bayern could even make an addition to their midfield. A defensive midfield signing seems the most likely. However, it is possible they look to bring in a midfielder more comfortable further up the pitch — especially if they decide against making James Rodriguez‘s move from Real Madrid permanent.
According to a new report from Bild am Sonntag, Bayern Munich are considering a move for AS Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo. The 19-year-old has been a breakout star since joining the Romans from Inter Milan last summer.
Standing three inches over six feet tall, Zaniolo has oft been compared to Francesco Totti since moving to Rome. However, that’s not exactly the best comparison for the attacking midfielder. He’s more similar to Paul Pogba, or even Bayern’s own Leon Goretzka. He’s a technically gifted, attack-minded midfielder with an excellent left foot and some serious drive going forward. He most often plays in an advanced role in the center of the park, but the fact that he has played at right wing several times this seasons speaks greatly of his versatility.
Bild‘s report suggests Zaniolo would prefer a move to Bayern Munich over the many top European clubs who are keeping tabs on him. Roma would demand at least €50 million for the teenager, and the Bavarians could be willing to pay that amount.
Zaniolo is also not too dissimilar from another one of Europe’s top teenagers (and yet another player who has been heavily linked with Bayern), Kai Havertz. Perhaps Bayer Leverkusen’s insistence that Havertz is not for sale has pushed Die Roten to consider other options. If that’s the case, Zaniolo would be a solid option. However, Bayern would probably be better off pushing extra hard to secure a move for Havertz.
