Bayern Munich CEO remains coy about Timo Werner interest
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently spoke openly in an interview with Sky Germany but remained coy when asked about Timo Werner.
Bayern Munich took control of the Bundesliga table on Saturday with an emphatic 5-0 drubbing of Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. Niko Kovac and Co. were at their absolute best to completely dismantle the young Dortmund side.
The win will no doubt serve as a big confidence boost for Kovac, who has found himself under the microscope ever since his appointment as Bayern’s manager. The Croat still has his detractors, but Saturday’s win will keep many of his critics at bay for now.
One of the biggest reasons many deem it harsh to judge Kovac too critically at this stage is because of the squad that was given to him. He was not allowed to make any additions of his own last summer and was instead forced to head into this season with an ageing and injury-prone squad.

Bayern have already begun mending that issue, though, as they seek to initiate a big squad rejuvenation in the summer. The signatures of France internationals Benjamin Pavard (€35 million) and Lucas Hernandez (€80 million) have already been confirmed for the summer. Now the club will focus on strengthening their offensive corps.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, speaking on Sky Germany yesterday, confirmed that Bayern Munich are actively looking for additions in attack (via Transfermarkt). Beyond that, he might have given a hint about the future of Timo Werner, RB Leipzig striker and Germany international who has been heavily linked with a move to Bavaria in recent months.
The Bayern CEO remained coy when asked about the 23-year-old, simply stating he wouldn’t comment on players who have a contract with another club that runs beyond 2019 as he fought back a grin.
This is far from the first time Werner’s name has been mentioned as a potential candidate to be part of Bayern’s upheaval. Just a few weeks ago Kicker reported that the club was already in intense negotiations to sign the player, while Sport Bild had previously claimed that Bayern and Werner had already agreed on personal terms.
The speedy striker’s current contract expires next summer, and RB Leipzig have already claimed they will sell him this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal. At this point, it seems less a matter of if Timo Werner will join Bayern Munich, but more of a question as to when the deal will be announced as official.
