Thomas Muller is confident Bayern Munich are ready to pounce on any mistakes Borussia Dortmund make in the Bundesliga title race.

The 2018-19 Bundesliga season has been exciting on both ends of the league table. There is a thrilling race for the title ongoing, as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are level on points heading into matchday 27. Die Roten have crept just ahead of Dortmund in the table due to a superior goal difference.

Bayern Munich are gaining momentum in the league at the right time, having scored five or more goals in their past three Bundesliga games. Speaking to Bundesliga’s official website, Thomas Muller asserted that Bayern are prepared to capitalize on any and all errors their league rivals make between now and the end of the season. The Bavarian forward believes the title race will go down to the wire, irrespective of the result of next weekend’s Der Klassiker.

"“Dortmund cannot afford any slip-ups because we’re in fantastic shape. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling title race – it must be a neutral’s dream.“The Dortmund game will have a bearing on the title race, but it won’t be the deciding factor. Getting back ahead on goal difference does us no harm at all, though.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten began their campaign in a fantastic manner as they looked in good shape to comfortably defend the Bundesliga title. After a good start, Bayern Munich hit a brick wall in the final few months of 2018. The defending champions even found themselves out of the top four at one stage, and there was a growing uncertainty around the future of Niko Kovac at the club. They narrowly lost the first Der Klassiker of this season, allowing Borussia Dortmund to come back twice in that game to take all three points.

Bayern saw out this tough phase, and the club decided to stick with Kovac. The Croatian finally struck a proper balance in his starting lineup midway through December, and the team began delivering convincing performances and racking up wins. Bayern have dropped points only once in their past 14 Bundesliga games. Their fantastic form has coincided with Dortmund’s slump, reducing the latter’s lead at the top from seven points to zero.

Thomas Muller has become a regular in the starting eleven in the past few weeks. The German has struggled somewhat to score goals, but his movement improves Bayern’s overall play. Muller was suspended for both the Champions League games against Liverpool, and the Bavarians missed his movement badly as they struggled to create against the English side. Muller was recently axed from the Germany national team.  This shock decision from Joachim Low will surely motivate him to perform even better for Bayern. He is set to play a massive role in deciding this exciting title race.

Bayern suffered disappointment in the Champions League once again this season when they were outclassed by Liverpool at the Allianz Arena. They have a chance of ending the season on a positive note by winning both the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, however. Niko Kovac has struggled at Bayern on a few occasions, but winning these two trophies would surely tone down the speculation surrounding his future at the club.
