Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly hoping to reunite with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara next season.

Bayern Munich have plans for a big upheaval in the upcoming summer transfer market. After years of relying on veteran players to lead them to success, Die Roten are looking to build a squad with younger players that can help them dominate in the near and distant future.

A few players have already confirmed their departures in the summer, such as Arjen Robben and Rafinha, while Bayern might also offload a few others to make room for younger players.

Thiago Alcantara was one of the few players Bayern linked with a move away from the club over the summer. The Spaniard was heavily linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Bavarians ultimately decided to keep their star midfielder, who never pushed for a move away from Munich. He has consistently claimed he is happy to stay at Bayern, but his current form will surely attract interest from several top European clubs in the summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester City have renewed their interest in Thiago. Pep Guardiola wants to reunite with the Spaniard yet again, seeing his former pupil as a good replacement for Fernandinho. This report also suggests Thiago would like to work under the former Bayern manager if the opportunity arises.

Thiago has been enjoying a fine campaign under Niko Kovac and has become a key player for his new coach. He has primarily featured as a holding midfielder under the Croatian, but he spent a few games in a more advanced role. His brilliant passing range has made Bayern’s midfield tick this season, whether deep in midfield as a number six or slightly further up as a number eight.

The Spaniard’s current contract with Bayern expires in 2021. Man City will have to come up with a big offer to change Bayern’s mind about their midfielder.

Thiago is enjoying life in Bavaria, so he is unlikely to force a move. His performances in the big games at the end of last season were heavily criticized, but he has found a way to be more influential in important games this season.

It will be a huge surprise if Bayern decide to sell Thiago in the summer. The Spaniard is held in high regards by Kovac, and he is in the prime of his career. His injury issues haven’t been so prevalent over the past few seasons, so it isn’t considered risky for the Bavarians to hang on to him. If Bayern Munich do look to offload a midfielder or two over the summer, Renato Sanches and James Rodriguez are by far more likely candidates.
